Dickey's Barbecue Pit - Lynden, WA

www.facebook.com/DickeysBarbecuePitLynden
My family and I had the pleasure of recently enjoying the taste sensation of Dickey's Barbecue and oh what an experience it was! WARNING the following pictures contain Food Images and Descriptions that will make you want to rush out to your local Dickey's and get some Barbecue - please make sure (for your safety and the safety of others) that you only read during your local Dickey's Normal Business Operating Hours!
Dickey's Barbecue Pit is Managed By Dustin Benson! This is the sign located at the entrance.

When you arrive you immediately get in line to place your order and the food is prepared line style while you observe.  The first person cuts your meat selections to order and places those, the second person places your side orders and the last person gets you your Big Yellow Cup (all drinks are in the same size cup) and totals your orders.  It was busy when we were there so our wait in line was about 10 minutes or so, but once we got up to the counter the service was speedy.

This is the menu that you choose from, we ended up choosing to each have the 2 Meat Plates with Drinks (Big Yellow Cup) and my youngest choose from the kid's meals.

Troy is the Assistant Manager (and Dustin's Dad) and you will find him working at the front counter or wherever help is needed!

Once you have your food items you move over to the side bar where you choose your soft drinks or cold sweet tea.  You also pick out the barbecue of your choice, Sweet, Standard or Spicy.  The FREE Pickles are also self serve and they are a meal unto themselves!  I got the biggest kick out of the "silverware" (they are plastic with a Silver finish), they fooled me at first glance - when I went to grab the forks, spoons and knives I was surprised at the weight - then I realized that they were "plastic wear".  This is the first time I had seen plastic utensils with a "Silver" finish!

The impressive Pickle Jar - no small portions here!

This is the table we sat at, this particular table is tucked into the corner giving us plenty of room to spread out, but all of the tables gave generous elbow and leg room!

The food - the reason for our trip to Dickeys!
This is what my oldest daughter order (notice the phone right next to her food - can't leave home without it).  She thought that the meal was so good that she took a photo and texted it to her friend!  Shown here is the Turkey, Ham, Coleslaw and Mac n Cheese (and of course the Big Yellow Cup).

Shown Here (hubby's dinner): Chopped Brisket, Pulled Pork, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Baked Beans and the Roll.

The youngest daughter's selection (from the kid's menu) - these are 3 of her absolute all time favorites and they did not disappoint!  Shown here:  Chicken Nuggets, Mac n Cheese and the over-sized Pickle!  Her meal came with a kid sized Yellow Cup!

This was my dinner, shown is the Sliced Brisket, Ham, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Coleslaw and Roll.  My belly was doing a happy dance - all of the food was oh so good!
When you happen to know the Manager you get special perks like a tour of the back kitchen!  This is what the kitchen looks like at peak operating hours!  Dustin has a great crew who work well together making sure both the kitchen, service and dining room are functioning at top performance.  As a side note - the dining room looked great (here is your plug Denise).  It was so busy that Dustin called his Mom in to help in the dining room (she is a friend of mine from way back) she kept the tables clean, the self serve areas full and neat and most of all kept a smile on her face the whole time she was helping the customers!

This is the life of the restaurant - the Smoker.  The meats are slowly "smoking" as they rotate in the smoker.  I believe Dustin said that it takes 17 hours to fully smoke the meats.  That's almost a whole day - talk about a long prep time!
I fully recommend Dickey's Barbecue Pit it was a great place for the whole family to enjoy a meal together without breaking the budget.  The atmosphere was fun and casual, the food was excellent and if that wasn't enough they also have self serve FREE ICE CREAM in your choice of a cone or cup!  Where else can you take the whole family and get Big Yellow Cups that you get to take home, FREE PICKLES, FREE ICE CREAM and everyone leaves full and satisfied!  If you have leftovers (the portion sizes are generous) there are even help yourself take out containers along with lids for the barbecue sauce.....shhh, don't tell anyone but I think the youngest took home an extra pickle!
