Well....That Was Painful! Does Your Blog Need to See the Doctor?

So I am participating in a couple of blog hops, one is a weekend blog hop and one is a week long "Ultimate" blog hop.  I still consider myself fairly new when it comes to blogging, but I have managed to form some definitive opinions along the way, particularly when it comes to finding and following blogs.  My session this morning was particularly painful and frustrating as there were so many blogs that I went to that I couldn't find a way to follow and/or comment so I just left.  I thought I would take a couple of minutes to share my thoughts written from the perspective of a potential follower.
You can agree or disagree, because as I stated these are only my personal thoughts!

These are some of the reasons I will or will not follow a blog.
  1. I like to find new blogs to follow, particularly ones that are in similar genre as mine, which is a combo of my business and personal.
  2. I will not follow a blog if it is too difficult to get to the Google Friend Connect or Networked Blogs and I will usually only follow via the RSS feed if you have a really good blog.
  3. I will follow your Facebook if you have a badge that is easy to find and I can follow right from your blog page.
  4. I am not sure if you noticed but there are a huge number of giveaway/contest/review blogs out there and I already follow a bunch.....so I will only follow new blogs with this genre if they also have other content mixed in and I usually won't enter contests that have too many rules (sorry my brain is easily confused, I have kids after all....).
  5. Commenting....if it is too difficult for me to find how to leave a comment, I won't leave one.
  6. If the layout of someones blog frustrates me, I won't even follow.
  7. I don't want to read just straight text, pictures are nice.
  8. Music is annoying, I don't care what your musical preference is and unless you have a great blog I will leave it if I hear music (however if you blog is great, I will turn the volume down).
  9. It is really hard to read some of the fonts that are out there these days, so if I can't read your font....there is no point in me following your blog.
  10. In general light text on a dark background is hard to read unless you have a really good layout and nice font.
In regards to blog hops/linkys etc.....I have participated in several of these and I have found that most of my followers do not come from my blog being listed in the linky tools, but my followers come from me commenting on their blog.  I always leave my link .urls in my comment signature because I know that it is much easier for me to follow back if I am easily able to get to someones blog by clicking on their link rather than going to their profile and trying to find their blog that way.  Most comment forms will allow .html tags, so this is the .html code that I use to list my .url information:

<a href="http://klscupboard.com" rel="nofollow"> http://KLsCupboard.com </a>
Replace the blue with your .url and replace the Red with the text you want to show up.

I think I have rambled enough for this morning....I did managed to find several really nice blogs to follow and I am looking forward to reading more from them!

I do have to say I totally agree with the music. Don't get me wrong I love music but sometimes I don't want to listen to it.

I do have a dark background but I think my font/ color combo works. But if you do stop by let me know what you think. Thanks!
